Introduction to dermal fillers

Each individual has their own concept of beauty and their own unique aesthetic goals. Dermal fillers are a type of aesthetic treatment that may be used to achieve a wide range of different effects across the face. They are commonly used to fill (reduce facial lines and wrinkles); to volumize (add volume to the cheeks, chin and lips); and to lift (enhance and maintain facial shapes and contours).

FAQs

As most dermal fillers are not permanent, top-up treatment may be necessary to maintain the results achieved in the initial treatment. Lower volumes of filler may be used in top-up treatments, depending on the injection area and the time gaps between the treatments.

•    Avoid applying make-up to the skin immediately after treatment.
•    Light cover up may be used to conceal any remaining redness after approximately 24 hours.
•    A yellow-toned concealer may be used to hide signs of bruising.
•    In order to cover up any redness, a concealer with a slight green/yellow tone is recommended.

The most common side effects include treatment site reactions such as swelling, bruising, redness, pain and tenderness. These side effects generally disappear within one week after injection. Other potential side effects may occur. Treatment with dermal fillers can lead to reactivation of the cold sore virus in patients prone to cold sores. More serious side effects, such as blood vessel obstruction, can occur. You should discuss the potential treatment risks with your healthcare practitioner.
